SUMMARY
Plant: terrestrial herb

Stem: slightly angular, 10–46 mm long, pale green to dark red
Cataphyll: 10 mm long, acute with subulate apex
Leaf: size, shape, and coloration highly variable; pale to medium green, sometimes flushed red below, sessile, base slightly decurrent on stem, cordate to lanceolate with broad cordate base, auricles typically well-developed, 15–29 × 12–20 mm, glabrous, margin undulate or flat, apex acute to obtuse, apiculate; veins reticulate, with two lateral veins on either side of midrib, outermost lateral veins extending about halfway to apex before anastomosing with inner lateral veins, secondary veins numerous and running largely parallel to one another
Peduncle: greenish, less than 1 mm long
Bract: green, linear-lanceolate, 8 mm long, acuminate
Ovary: cylindrical, 5.5 mm long, ridged
Flower: solitary, upright, colors as follows: Dorsal sepal whitish and finely specked with purple, lateral sepals and petals whitish, outer surface of labellum tube white at base with broad purple streaks beginning about 1/3 of way up tube, these fusing into a broad purple blotch on ventral side, spurs white, inner surface of labellum tube marked longitudinally with c. 10 irregular purple stripes, ovary green
Dorsal sepal: spathulate-oblanceolate, 18 × 7 mm, apiculate, slightly keeled, glabrous, 7-veined, midvein slightly crested
Lateral sepals: filiform, 18 mm long, emerging from behind spurs
Lateral petals: linear, 3 mm long
Labellum: from tubular basal part, opening into a slightly expanded 8 mm wide blade, 14 mm long when flattened out, blade surface papillose, margins crenulate, opening to floral tube broadly rounded
Spurs: narrowly conical, 2.5 mm long
Column: upright, 2 × 1.5 mm; ventral pad 1 × 1.5 mm
Capsule: not seen.
Type: Papua New Guinea, Morobe Province, Finisterre mountains, Yawan area, January 2012, S.P. Lyon SPL 449 (holotype LAE, isotype L).
Distribution: Endemic to New Guinea, presently known only from the Yawan area of the Finisterre Range in Papua New Guinea (Morobe Province).
Ecology: Terrestrial in leaf litter, humus and thin moss, on disturbed steep slopes in montane forest
Elevation: c. 1800–2250 m.
