SUMMARY
Plant: Small, 5 cm high terrestrial.
Tuber: globose, 1 - 2 mm across.
Stem: 3 cm high, 2-winged, glabrous.
Cataphyll: subinfundibulifom, 7 mm long, acute, 1-nerved.
Leaves: reddish green with darker nerves; ovate-cordate, 10 - 13 by 9 - 12 mm, aristate-apiculate, base cordate but cuneate at very base, midrib grooved above, markedly crested below, basal nerves 2 on either side of midrib, only the inner reaching tip of leaf, outer reaching about halfway, suprabasal nerves 3 - 4 on either side of midrib, connate to inner basal nerve, venation widely reticulate, margin crinkled-wavy; finely papillate above.
Pedicel: dark red, 1 mm long, glabrous.
Bract: linear, ovate in basal part, 8 mm long, aristate-caudate, glabrous.
Ovary: narrowly cylindric, 7 by 1 mm, glabrous.
Flower: purple with transparent colourless or white veins.
Median sepal: lanceolate-ligulate, 17 - 20 by 2 - 3 mm, long aristate awn 2 - 3 mm long, 3-nerved, finely serrate along apical margin only, glabrous.
Lateral sepals: widened at base, 15 mm long. (assumed reversed)
Lateral petals: linear, widened at base, respectively 7 - 9 mm (assumed reversed)
Lip: from a tubular basal part abruptly curved downwards and spreading into a 2-lobed limb, 5 by 5 mm large, margin serrate-fimbriate, 5-nerved in basal part, many-nerved in apical part, entire lip glabrous
Boss: linear, slightly raised only
Spurs: mammilliform, 1.5 by 1.5 mm.
Capsule: oblong, 20 mm.
Type: Schlechter 15819 (B, +), neotype: Millar & Womersley NGF 7753 (LAE).
Distribution: Bismarck Mts (Schlechter 18819); Jimi Valley (Millar & Womersley 7753); near Wankl village, c. 5 km SE of Mt Hagen (Hoogland & Pullen 5930).
Ecology: In moss cushions on floor of montane forest
