SUMMARY
Plant: Small, 1 - 5 cm high, terrestrial.
Tuber: ellipsoid or subglobose, 3 - 7 by 2 - 5 mm.
Stem: 3 - 34 mm long, 3-winged.
Cataphyll: funnelshaped, 4 - 5 mm long, subcaudate, glabrous.
Leaves: green above, reddish or silvery below; orbicular-cordate or ovate-cordate, 8 - 24 by 5 - 18 mm, acuminate, base cordate, sometimes developed into an up to 7 mm long petiole-like part, margin crinkled-wavy, midrib slightly impressed above, crested below mainly in basal part, lateral nerves 1, rarely 2 or 3 basal, and 2 or 3, rarely 5, suprabasal on either side of midrib, lowest basal nerve, if present, very short, inner reaching apical part of limb; pellucid lenticels none.
Pedicel: 1 - 2.5 mm, rarely up 6 mm long, glabrous.
Bract: linear, boatshaped, 5.5- 7 by 1.5 - 2.5 mm, acute, tip often curved outward, glabrous; Bracteole, if present, subulate, 1.5 - 2 mm long.
Ovary: erect, narrowly ellipsoid, 6 - 8.5 mm long, glabrous.
Flower: variable in colour and size, dull metallic reddish purple or rarely wholly white and these plants usually larger.
Median sepal: strongly cucullate, curving over and entirely covering lip, spathulate, 10 - 12 by 5 - 6 mm, but up to 18 mm long when flattened, recurved and apiculate at tip, 7-nerved at base, 15-nerved on the hood, glabrous.
Lateral sepals: subulate, 1 - 1.5 mm long, acute, glabrous.
Lateral petals: subulate, 0.3 - 0.5 mm long, acute, glabrous, sometimes absent.
Labellum: from a curved, 4-6 mm long tubular basal part abruptly curved downward and spreading into a cordate-orbicular limb, in throat with a shallow pouch, limb apiculate, 17-nerved, papillate on inside along margin, the latter entire;
Spurs: narrowly conoid, 2-3 mm long.
Capsule: ellipsoid, trigonous, 10 - 12 by 4 -5 mm, either peduncle or stem elongating up to 21 cm, but bract remaining at base of capsule.
